The 2004 National Employer Support Award winners were announced at the National Defence Reserves Support Council Conference held in Townsville.
 
Queensland's Tropical Public Health Unit Network is one of four employers that will be recognised for their significant support of Defence Force Reserve personnel at a special ceremony tonight (Monday 18 Oct) at the Southbank Convention Centre, Townsville.
 
Queensland's Tropical Public Health Unit Network, Language Links, Mazenod College and the University of South Australia will be announced as the winners of this year's Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC) National Employer Support Awards. Language Links and Mazenod College are both Western Australia-based.
 
The ceremony, organised by DRSC, acknowledges employers who have supported their Reserve employees with leave arrangements and other special considerations necessary for them to fulfil their Defence obligations.

The Tropical Public Health Unit Network, which has a long tradition of supporting the Defence Reserve, has won the Government category. The Tropical Public Health Unit Network provides an integrated, specialised approach to the protection of health, prevention of disease, illness and injury and the promotion of health and well being.
 
Language Links will be presented with the award in the Private Enterprise Small Business category. Language Links is a fully accredited and registered English Language College, dedicated to offering support and personal assistance to students wishing to improve their English.
 
Mazenod College, a school in the Hills District of Perth, has won the Private Enterprise Medium Business category. The college strongly supports Defence and eight of its 56 staff serve in the Reserve.
 
The University of South Australia has won the Government and Large Business category. The university is a 'Defence-friendly university. It has policies and procedures to assist both staff and students in the Defence Reserve.
