Fifteen employers from the North West New South Wales town of Tamworth have spent an evening observing Defence reservists under training.
The employers had the opportunity to learn about the skills, roles and types of equipment that reservists work with at C Squadron 12/16 Hunter River Lancers.
The reserve armoured unit hosted the employers with the assistance of The Defence Reserves Support Council (DRSC) NSW committee. DRSC Regional Liaison Officer Major Glenn Jones said the evening showcased the reservists' work and also allowed local unit commanders to meet and discuss how employers and the unit could 'work together'.
"We want to ensure reservists are free for training," said Major Jones.
"We also want employers to have sufficient notice and are aware of the protection provisions for reservists and the Employer Support Payment Scheme."
The evening was part of a continuing strategy in the region to have employers build closer relations with units and unit commanders to ensure reservists are available for training both in Corps and ready reaction force duties.
